Family – Verbenaceae.   Teak is one of the world’s most valued wood species, popular for thousands years. Teak is the choice by many for its durability, resistance to rotting and minimal maintenance. Teak can be left outside, untreated, for many years while still retaining its natural elegance and strength. As such, it is often used in the production of outdoor furniture and luxury yachts as a deck cover. It is expansive due to its relative scarcity and difficulty to harvest and transport.    Origin and distribution – It is distributed in the Indian peninsula, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Philipines, Indonesia. Komodoor supplies Indonesian Merbau, mostly from East Jawa. Komodoor offers Teak in Prime, Select and Natural (wild) Grades. Wild grade has a swirly grain pattern and a wide spectrum of interlocking colours: heartwood yellow, olive, light to dark brown and cream. Prime and Select grades are more colour consistent and more-or-less variegated and streaked in pattern. Flooring is selected for for Light, Medium and Dark colours. Skirting is supplied only in Select Grade and selected for L, M, D colours. PRIME Quarter and semi-quarter sawn. No life knots, sapwood, stain, pin holes, mineral streaks. No colour variation. SELECT Flat and quarter sawn. No sapwood, stain, dead knots, pin holes. Slight colour variation. Some life knots and mineral streaks are accepted. NATUR Flat and quarter sawn.
